This is one of my new favorite places. It is the screen porch off of our bedroom. The sun rises here (it faces NE, but more East than North), filling the room with the first sunlight of the day. It's amazing how naturally our bodies follow this light. I can't wait until it's warm enough to have our morning coffee in this very peaceful spot. What a genius place for a clothesline too (this was here before we moved in)!! I've managed to wash the quilt and pillow (for the baby) so that I can share it as a finished project. It measures about 3' x 3' (each square being roughly 12"x12"). I love the way the colors dance around each other...
I wanted the quilting to be simple, yet sweet, and not especially time/work intensive. I thought at first that I would use the machine to quilt this, but it didn't work aesthetically. So I came up with this stylized tulip pattern. Being an April/May baby, this motif seemed appropriate. One tulip was hand stitched on each block in red cotton thread. There are two tulips on the pillow. I also didn't want to frame the quilt when binding it because I like the way that the triangles look-- as though they could just keep going on and on and on-- hence the absence of binding on the front of the quilt.
An up close of the pillow with the quilt. It looks as though the reds bled in this photo, but it's just the lighting-- I would have been very sad otherwise. How exciting it will be to see our little one all curled up-- it's head resting on this pillow! More pictures of our new home will be posted in the coming days... have a lovely weekend. Yeah! It's above freezing now in Maine.
