I'm giving up on this one. I really thought that I could somehow get it to fit just so, but I'd rather just re-use this fabric (because I like it so much) for another project. This was just one of those things that seemed simple enough, yet proved to be more and more challenging at every turn. Here's the whole can of worms:
1) Wrong fabric for the pattern (you were absolutely right, Mom)
2) Three failed attempts at getting the tucks to be even on both sides.
3) One final attempt at getting the tucks to be even on both sides. Failed.
4) A great BIG gaping buttonHOLE gone wrong. Note to self: Do not use a seam ripper when you are pissed off. Also, purchase buttonhole scissors.

5) Garment bust is too big, despite my worries about it being to small (I thought that since I'm breastfeeding-- well, you know).
6) Because the fabric isn't as drape-y as it should be, the bottom half of the garment resembled a very large letter A.
7) 2 attempts at making the letter A smaller might have worked out if the back side of the garment wasn't visible from the front. In other words the newly created seams left more fabric in the back, and less in the front.
Sometimes it's best not to force something. I kind of wish that I had stopped at worm #4-- I would have left myself more fabric-- but then came the lace covered buttons. They could save anything-- so I thought. At least they can be used for another project. Okay, this post has helped me to let go.
I leave you with true perfection...

Yes, I quite agree. The onesie is definitely a favorite here. My mom brought it back from her recent trip to Finland.
its a good thing you have that beautiful baby to look at. when things go wrong i mean.
isnt it strange? you can have plenty of tools for "crafting" but your always missing something...
Just found your lovely blog!
It sure was a beautiful model though and do understand why you love the fabric...
