For the Love of Coffee

It is snowing like crazy here! Due to this fact, the lighting is not great for pictures. But, pictures smictures... it's actually snowing! And it's so peacefully beautiful! This is my Valentine's Day gift for one Benjamin Gallaher-- a lovingly crafted coffee cozy. How he loves his coffee! I mean, I love coffee too, but being pregnant has encouraged me to limit caffeine intake. The idea for this cozy came from an antique crochet booklet (dated 1919) that my mom gave to me. It has filet patterns in it for gown yokes (which I might just get around to making someday), handkerchief edgings, and such. The chart that I used is pictured below. I simply blew it up a whole lot. After crocheting the motif, I blocked it (steam iron and pins), stitched it to the front, pinned the loop to the top, and stitched front and back together. Then I made the lining which consists of some recycled wool (to retain the heat) and a recycled fabric liner. The liner is then inserted into the outside layer, and finished with bias trim. If you're interested, I'll be posting more images from this booklet on flickr.

Looking forward to many more cups of hot coffee with my love...

Happy Valentine's Day!
