The other morning, a neighbor arrived at our door with a package that had been mistakenly delivered to his house instead of ours. Having basically just rolled out of bed, my skin and hair a mess because my hormones are going crazy (39th week), and still in my pajamas, I opened the door just enough for him to pass the box through, and I sheepishly thanked him. Some people probably wouldn't be bothered by this kind of exchange. In fact, I really don't mind these sorts of things when it's someone like the post person. But, having such an awkward first encounter got me to thinking about what it will be like to have a newborn, and probably a fair amount of people stopping by. I'm going to need lounging outfits... outfits that I can easily nurse the baby in, and outfits in which I'll feel comfortable when company calls. So I've gone to work-- re-fashioning some garments that were given to me, but have been too big to wear...
Here is the first remake:

A robe/smock of sorts with a nifty pocket + elasticized cuffs-- easily pushed up when certain tasks require a more 'down and dirty' approach. The camera warps the stripes a bit, but this is a lovely, blue and white striped cotton that I trimmed in a navy cotton knit (the top photos are more true to the actual colors). There are hook + eye closures where the two covered buttons meet. I'm considering adding some more hooks + eyes-- not sure yet. The belt might be shortened too-- it doesn't really need to go around twice-- especially because I'll be losing the bump soon. There will be more photos of this project on flickr. More lounge-y stuff to come too!!!
